Keystone Environmental Ltd. (Keystone Environmental), the go to environmental consulting firm, announced today that they have been named Top Employer at the ECO Impact Awards last week in Calgary, Alberta.

The ECO Impact awards were developed to create visibility and recognition for the people who are leading the environmental sector in Canada and the organizations that employ them. ECO Canada designates professionals that contribute to the innovation, sustainability and growth of the environmental sector. Their definition of an environmental professional is a progress-focused practitioner who works within a range of industries in Canada and ensures that the projects and work conducted minimize environmental impact.

Keystone Environmental, with assistance from Milestone Environmental Contracting, was retained by Canadian National Railway Company (CN) to design, develop, manage and monitor an innovative and first-of-a-kind approach to repurpose concrete rail ties into marine reefs marking the first time in the world that scrap concrete rail ties have been re-purposed for fish habitat enhancement. “Together we have pioneered new reef methodologies that minimize the reef footprint, while maximizing structure in the water column for fish and kelp,” said David Brogliatto, Senior Manager Environment, Western Division, CN Environment.

“While we faced many challenges along the way, we are pleased to have had the opportunity to work with Keystone Environmental on this innovative project.” said John Clarke, P.Eng. Senior Project Manager, Milestone Environmental Contracting.

“With this initiative, we have contributed to innovation in marine habitat restoration and – in the process – the rail industry. A congratulations goes out to all parties involved in the years of development and execution of this unique project; this acknowledgment is just as much yours as it is ours.” Raminder Grewal, President, Keystone Environmental.
