Annual emissions reporting season is here. Did you know that Alberta’s Annual Emissions Inventory Reporting (AEIR) program may require your industrial facility to identify sources and air emissions? Keystone Environmental can support facilities with AEIR and help navigate these regulatory requirements with confidence. Read further to learn how we can support you during the upcoming AEIR reporting cycle.

What is Alberta Annual Emissions Inventory Reporting (AEIR)?
The AEIR is a regulatory program under Alberta’s Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA). AIER requires industrial facilities with EPEA approval to identify and report their operations and air emissions such as their pollution control equipment, air pollution sources, and emission rates. Accurate reporting will allow your facility to maintain regulatory compliance and support sustainability initiatives.

Does AEIR Apply to your Facility?
If your industrial operation holds an EPEA approval and exceeds emissions reporting thresholds for substances – such as Sulphur Dioxide, Nitrogen Oxides, Carbon Monoxide, Particulate Matter, Volatile Organic Compounds and Ammonia – you may need to complete and submit and AEIR. Reporting thresholds are published in Chapter 9 of the Alberta’s Air Monitoring Directive (AMD).

Connect with us to learn if AEIR applies to your facility.

When is Reporting Season?
AEIR reporting is due by September 30th for the previous calendar year, but early preparation helps prevent inconsistencies and data gaps. Stay tuned for the 2025-2027 AEIR Standard and Guidance updates expected to be published later in Spring 2026 or early summer.

What Information is Typically Required?
Facilities are commonly asked to provide the following information as part of the reporting process:

  • Fuel consumption and material usage data
  • Production and operational information
  • Equipment and emission source inventories
  • Air monitoring or sampling data

How Can Keystone Help?
Keystone Environmental can support your team throughout the AEIR process with:

  • AEIR applicability assessments and reviews
  • Emissions quantifications and calculations
  • Preparation of Quantification Methodology Documents (QMDs)
  • Data compilation, validation and quality review
  • Comprehensive AEIR reporting support and submission assistance

Keystone Environmental can streamline your reporting process and support compliance with Alberta’s regulatory requirements. To learn more, contact us at (604) 430-0671 or email our Department Head of Engineering, Richard Johns.
